travel!digital

Besides introducing a unique collection of German Baedeker travel guides, dating from the period between 1875 and 1914, key topics of the travel!digital project include linguistic and in particular semantic markup, domain-specific knowledge organization, content contextualization by Linked Open Data, and some good reasons why advanced textual studies on this genre are of interest. With the focus on people and monuments, two essential components not only of guidebook texts but cultural narratives in general, the project aims at showing that semantic technologies have a great potential to reveal much about a discourse that goes far beyond travel literature.
