The Swiss RISM Office is an academic research infrastructure dealing with historical music documents. It develops and maintains a database together with an international community and has a strong expertise in the development of digital tools for musicological research.

In order to reinforce our team, we are looking for a:

Senior software developer

Fixed term position (18 months, starting date to be agreed)

Role

• Develop a web application for aggregating heterogenous musicological data resources
• Design a ground-breaking domain-specific user interface tailored to academic datasets
• Apply agile methodologies in collaboration with the team members and project partners
• Collaborate with internal and external developers for the implementation and deployment of the web application
• Present the application and conduct workshops for potential users of the product
• Strengthen the team’s international presence through reinforcement of existing and new partnerships
• Participate in the writing of grant proposals for the continuation of the project

Profile

• PhD in Music Technology
• At least 3 years of software development in a digital library environment
• In-depth knowledge of web application software components (RoR, JS, SASS, Git)
• Proven experience of leading international collaborative academic projects
• Expertise in large-scale data indexing (Solr) and in Linked Data technologies
• Experience in digitisation, including the use of IIIF resources and of OMR technologies
• Excellent knowledge of musicological data modelling (MEI) and querying
• Track record of implementing sustainability strategies
• Good experience of public speaking and presenting to a technical and non-technical international audience
• Experience of grant proposal writing and related administrative procedures
• Excellent written and spoken English, with knowledge of French or German an asset
