Associate Editor positions (2) - DSH: Digital Scholarship in the Humanities

Are you an engaged scholar in the digital humanities with a sharp editorial eye and a commitment to academic quality? DSH: Digital Scholarship in the Humanities—a leading international peer-reviewed journal—is looking for two Associate Editors to join its editorial team. The initial appointment will be for one year, after which a longer term will be offered following an evaluation.

You will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief, alongside two Senior Editors and four fellow Associate Editors, in a collaborative yet intellectually independent environment that sits at the forefront of digital scholarship.

Your role

As an Associate Editor, you will take ownership of the peer review process for a portfolio of submissions (up to 50 at any given time) within the Scholar One Manuscript Central journal management system. You will play a key role in safeguarding the journal’s academic standards and shaping its scholarly direction.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Assessing the suitability of submissions for the journal

  • Identifying, inviting, and liaising with expert peer reviewers

  • Evaluating reviewer reports and recommending editorial decisions

  • Managing revision rounds and maintaining communication with peer reviewers

In addition, you will:

  • Support the Editor-in-Chief in the daily management of the journal

  • Contribute to the journal’s strategic development

  • Represent the journal at scholarly events, meetings, and committees

  • Act on behalf of the Editor-in-Chief when required

Your profile

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Have a strong academic background in digital humanities or a closely related field

  • Are familiar with peer review processes in scholarly publishing

  • Demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills

  • Have an excellent command of English

  • Can work independently and manage multiple submissions simultaneously

  • Are committed to fairness, rigour, and constructive academic dialogue

Editorial experience is not a requirement. Training will be provided.
