Research Associate (m/f/d) with focus on Digital Lexicography and Research Software Engineering

The Academy of Sciences and Literature | Mainz is looking for a Research Associate (m/f/d) 1.0 EG 13 TV-L with a focus on Digital Lexicography and Research Software Engineering to start as soon as possible and initially for a limited period of 3 years.

The Academy of Sciences and Literature | Mainz is a Germany-wide association of scholars and at the same time a funding institution for research projects in the humanities, social sciences and musicology. In the Digital Academy, an interdisciplinary team of computer scientists and humanities scholars works on research into new methods, models and technologies for the analysis and publication of research data in the humanities, as well as on the development of sustainable software and infrastructure components, e.g. within the framework of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI).

Tasks:

  • Research and development tasks in the field of lexicographic research applications, e.g. in the Academy project "Digitales Familiennamenwörterbuch Deutschlands" (www.namenforschung.net) and other research projects

  • Evaluation, implementation and maintenance of generic computational linguistic services, architecture and development of web-based APIs, modelling and linking of lexicographic systems to Linked Data applications

  • Interdisciplinary cooperation with national and international research teams

  • Presentations at national and international conferences and publication of research software and work results on relevant platforms

Qualifications:

  • Completed university studies

  • Experience in web-based software development and system architecture

  • Very good knowledge of current web technologies (PHP 7, JavaScript, CSS3, HTML5, databases)

  • Very good knowledge of lexicographic research data standards and XML technologies (XPath, XSLT, XQuery, XML databases)

  • Knowledge of extension and API programming with the content management framework TYPO3 (can be built up in parallel with work)
