JOB: Junior Professorship for Digital Humanities with a focus on Art History
The Institute of Art History, Department of Media Studies and Art History (University of Erlangen-Nürnberg) is seeking a Junior Professor in Digital Humanities to be filled by the earliest possible starting date for an initial period of three years. Depending on successful evaluation the appointment will be extended for another three years.
The successful candidate is expected to represent the field adequately in teaching and research, and to make a substantial contribution to the thematic and methodological profile in art history as part of digital humanities. Possible focuses include:
- the use of digital technologies to document and analyse objects in art and visual history;
- quantitative processes (e.g. cultural analytics, image processing, 3D reconstruction) and qualitative processes (e.g. linked data and semantic web);
- reflection on methodological changes in art history and visual studies as a result of digitalisation;
- reflection on social developments such as the effects of digitalisation and digitality on cultural heritage or visual perception.
Candidates must be suitably qualified both in art history and in information science or a similar field.
The appointed professor is expected to contribute to the development of related degree programmes, as well as innovative teaching and learning formats. The successful candidate must be willing to collaborate on interdisciplinary research with other subjects and faculties, in particular as part of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Digital Humanities and Social Sciences (IZdigital), the Interdisciplinary Centre for Edition Philology (IZED) and the Interdisciplinary Centre for Media Studies (IMZ) at FAU. The junior professorship is being established in connection with a consortium project as part of Digital Campus Bavaria. The successful candidate is therefore expected to collaborate closely with the project partners.
