Starting from the ongoing project of a digital edition of Ferdinand de Saussure’s manuscripts – an enterprise engaging the efforts of several actors (Centre Universitaire d’Informatique de l’Université de Genève, Bibliothèque de Genève, Cercle Ferdinand de Saussure, University of Calabria) – the workshop aims at hosting the debate on the design, structuring, realization and maintenance of digital archives and collaborative online editions of modern manuscripts.
The major purpose is to gather various experts in the field of digital humanities and team members involved in modern manuscripts digitalization projects by providing the opportunity to share experiences, problems and solutions.

Workshop formula: semi-open

Besides plenary lectures, communication proposals (20 minutes) are welcome.
Topics for abstracts may include, but are not limited to, the following areas:

• Digitization of modern manuscripts and structuring digital archives: state of the art, current projects, successes, failures;
• Development, implementation and maintenance of digital archives from specific funds of modern manuscripts: what criteria, what settings for managing digital documents?
• The transcription of a manuscript in the social era: design, development and use collaborative editing online platforms;
• Databases, data management, ontologies, web semantics, knowledge organization, crowdsourcing, cloud computing, encodings: the share of IT;
• The manuscript on the screen: tools, paratexts, reproduction;
• Researchers, archivists, IT specialists, students, amateurs: what to do, and how, with the variety of the users?
• Integration strategies for print and digital editions.

Paper proposals guidelines

An anonymous abstract of 400 words (English or French) plus bibliographic entries (up to 5) can be sent to the Organizers. The author's details (name and affiliation) should only appear in the text of the message.
Communication proposals will be evaluated by external experts.
Deadline for submission of abstracts: November 10, 2016
Notification of acceptance: late November 2016
