Maurizio Lana
Maurizio Lana (Università del Piemonte Orientale, Italy) has been active in Digital Humanities research since 1989, with foci in the history of personal computing, quantitative authorship attribution, digital libraries development.
From 2004, he collaborates with colleagues from mathematical physics to discover Gramscian articles among anonymous articles published by the newspaper with whom the young Gramsci collaborated using quantitative authorship attribution methods.
He is also active in digital libraries where in 2008 he wrote the digilibLT project which after a blind peer evaluation was selected for funding by Regione Piemonte and gave birth to digilibLT - digital library of late-latin texts which he co-manages. The library is built around the criteria of scientific quality of texts, TEI annotation, Open Access, and Creative Commons licenses.In more recent years he also started to work on semantic tagging for literary texts so in 2012 and 2013 he submitted two projects for ERC Synergy calls which were approved but not funded, and in 2013 after a blind peer evaluation Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo funded the geolat project which is built around the development of a geographical ontology for classical world texts.As of 2014 he submitted an international project (APT4T - Ancient Places Today for Tourism) for the JPI Heritage Plus call.Maurizio Lana is also a member of the executive committee of the new Italian digital humanities association AIUCD (Associazione per l’Informatica Umanistica e la Cultura Digitale) and chair of the ADHO Multilinguality Multiculturality Standing Committee.
